Hon Nabagame recently had a complicated pregnancy that nearly claimed her life.
She was hospitalised for weeks after the delivery according to NUP President, Bobi Wine.
“This MP fell sick during childbirth and we almost lost her; I cannot even imagine what you ordinary people go through,” Bobi Wine remarked at the event.
“We thank God because I believe he did this to show you what your constituents go through, and we thank you because when you recovered, the first thing you did was to shine a light on the healthcare situation in this era.”
Run-down health centers
Hon Nabagabe in her speech revealed that after giving birth five months ago, she embarked on a tour of the health facilities in Kassanda and was disheartened by what she found.
She found that in all three major health facilities; Bukuya HC IV, Kassanda HC IV and Kiganda HC IV, women were giving birth on the floor due to a lack of beds.
“At Bukuya there is one broken bed, at Kassanda they have two which are also broken,” she said.
“I found women pushing babies in the corridors of the hospitals! We cannot do this to our mothers who give us lives.”
Some of the items she donated include four beds for each of the three health centres, two baby cribs each, weighing scales and drip stands.
Bobi Wine in a fiery speech, said MPs should not have to carry the burden of supporting healthcare systems in their constituencies.
“Fixing hospitals is not the job of an MP. This is the job of the Health Ministry,” he said.
“The fact that your hospitals are in the state means the government has a case to answer.”
The event was attended by scores of local leaders, NUP officials and hundreds of residents.
