A tragic fire broke out in a home located in Tororo Cement Industry Central Cell, Ticaf Ward, Osukuru Town Council on Friday, 6th September, 2024 resulting in the deaths of a mother, Jane Kisakya, 25, and her two children, Peter Kaliwako, 3, and Precious Kaliwako, 2.

The fire, believed to have been sparked by petrol stored in the house, destroyed the home with three family members burnt beyond recognition.

According to a neighbor, Bernard Woniala, the fire began while Kisakya was cooking inside her rented room where the neighbors attempted to rescue the family but were delayed due to the door being locked from inside.

By the time they managed to break in, the family had already succumbed to suffocation and the flames.

Kisakya had been living alone following a domestic dispute with her husband, Ben Kaliwako.

LC1 chairperson, Kefa Othieno, expressed condolences to the family and urged residents to avoid storing petrol in their homes.

He emphasized the importance of learning from the incident to prevent future tragedies.

Area LCIII councillor, Michael Ayeli Ayeet, encouraged residents to practice neighborhood watch to increase vigilance within the community.

Stanislaus Ofwono Toto, the Town Council LCIII chairperson, called on landlords to provide designated cooking spaces for tenants to prevent similar incidents.
