Mobile Money Agent Gunned Down Near Jinja Security Boss Home

Jinja, Uganda – A mobile money agent was tragically gunned down in a shocking incident that occurred near the residence of a prominent security official in Jinja. The attack, which took place late Tuesday evening, has left the community in shock and raised concerns about the safety of business operators in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim, identified as 32-year-old John Muwanguzi, was closing his mobile money kiosk when two armed assailants approached him on a motorcycle. The attackers reportedly demanded cash before shooting him at close range. Muwanguzi succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The incident occurred just meters away from the home of a senior security officer, sparking questions about the brazenness of the attack. Local residents expressed fear and frustration, calling for increased security measures in the area.

Police Response
Jinja District Police Commander, Mr. James Mubi, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway. “We are treating this as a case of aggravated robbery. Our teams are working to identify and apprehend the suspects,” he said. Mubi also urged mobile money agents to remain vigilant and avoid operating late into the night.

Community Outcry
The killing has sent ripples through the local business community, with many mobile money agents expressing fear for their safety. “We are easy targets because we handle cash daily. The government needs to do more to protect us,” said one agent who preferred anonymity.

Local leaders have called for increased police patrols and the installation of security cameras in high-risk areas. They also urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement to help bring the perpetrators to justice.

Condolences and Calls for Justice
The victim’s family has appealed to the authorities to ensure that the killers are brought to book. “John was a hardworking man who was just trying to make a living. His death is a huge loss to us,” said a family member.

As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, hoping for swift action to prevent such incidents in the future.
