Men with Machetes in Viral Video Arrested by Kampala Police

A viral video capturing individuals with machetes on their persons has raised concerns in the community. As details emerge, the two men in the video have been identified as Sukura Onganyi and Derrick Kamira.

This video was recorded shortly after a police patrol team, led by Sgt Joshua Isabirye, intercepted the three men who attempted to evade arrest.

The incident took place on a Tuesday night when Sgt Isabirye and his team were conducting operations in Sempagala Zone, Ntinda, Nakawa Division. They encountered the three men riding a motorcycle with the registration number UFX 639Y. The men’s attempt to flee from the police on their motorcycle raised suspicion.

As the police pursued the individuals, they accidentally collided with the police patrol vehicle while attempting to evade it. Despite this, they quickly got back on their motorcycle, prompting the police to continue the chase.

The suspects tried to evade arrest using their motorcycle but crashed again near the church of Pr Abed Bwanika. They were apprehended, leading to a surprising discovery.

During a search, one of the locals recorded a video that revealed newly purchased machetes concealed inside the suspects’ trousers. The video captured the shocked reactions of onlookers and some individuals kicking the suspects while the police restrained these actions.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, provided information about the suspects. Onganyi is 19 years old and resides in Kamwokya, while Kamira is 23 years old and resides in Kiyembe Zone, Makindye.

In response to these developments, an investigation has been initiated regarding the possession of deadly weapons by the two suspects. The injured suspects have received medical attention at China Hospital Naguru and are under police guard.

Efforts are underway to locate and charge the third person involved alongside Onganyi and Kamira. Recovered machetes will be used as evidence in court during their trial.

The motorcycle with registration number UFX 639Y and the machetes have been secured as evidence. Further investigations will include searches of the suspects’ residential homes and an attempt to establish their criminal intentions in the area.

Kampala Metropolitan, encompassing Kampala City, Wakiso, Mukono, and parts of Mpigi districts, has experienced a series of attacks involving individuals wielding machetes, resulting in injuries and fatalities. These incidents have been predominantly recorded in Nsangi, Kyengera, Namungoona, Nansana, Bulenga, and Kira.
