Meet Emmanuel Bunkeddeko, a 41-year-old boda boda rider and father of three, who decided to go back to school after missing out on many job opportunities

Emmanuel Bunkeddeko, a 41-year-old boda boda rider from Mityana town, is among the 142,009 students taking this year’s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams.

Driven by a desire to improve his prospects after missing out on job opportunities due to a lack of formal qualifications, Bunkeddeko embarked on his academic journey later in life.

Starting in primary school, he sat for his Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in 2017 at age 33. He progressed through O’Level at Glory High School and later enrolled for A’Level at Pride Senior Secondary School.

Ann Tukahirwa, Deputy Head Teacher at Pride SS, praised Bunkeddeko’s discipline, expressing confidence that he will perform well.

Bunkeddeko hopes to continue his education at university, aiming for a degree that will help him secure a stable, well-paying job.

While he’s eager to advance in his career, Bunkeddeko says he’ll continue riding his boda boda as a source of income.

Through his hard work, he has managed to pay for his education as well as support his three children, two of whom are also in secondary school.
