Mt. Elgon NOOK Hub, a project under the Mt. Elgon Self Help Project has held its third exhibition on Saturday, 10th August, 2024 in Bungokho Sub-county, Mbale District, where graduates showcased a number of products made out of the skills gained from the Hub.

Caleb Wakhungu, the Country Director of Mt. Elgon NOOK Hub, explained that the exhibition featured products from various skills developed at the hub. These included shoes, eco-friendly stoves and briquettes, various clothing fashions, space-saving furniture, catering services, solar panel producers, hairdressing, and hair care products. He called for maximum support from all leaders to help the project achieve its vision.

Meanwhile, Ahamada Washaki, the Resident District Commissioner for Kumi District, who was a guest speaker called on leaders to consistently support and embrace community self-help projects within their areas.

Washaki emphasized that the responsibility of both elected and appointed leaders is to serve their communities. He added that community projects can only grow into major organizations with the backing and support of key leaders.

Emma Bwayo, the Namisindwa District Councilor, who was also a guest speaker at the event, noted that many projects have stalled due to a lack of commitment and support from leaders. He stressed that leaders, from Local Council One to the President, are expected to play an oversight and supervisory role in their communities’ projects. Bwayo commended the young people participating in the exhibition for embracing skills development programs.

Wangwe Ronald, Kakayi and Asimwe, some of the graduates from the Hub urged community members to support these efforts by purchasing the products and helping to boost enrollment.
