The Mbale City Mayor has clashed with the Mbale Resident City Commissioner over the continued construction of an illegal structure along Market Street Road behind KCB Bank at Industrial City Division in Mbale City.

The clash happened on Wednesday, 28th August, 2024 at the office of Mbale Resident City Commissioner, Asumin Nasike in the presence of State House RDC Secretariat officials led by Major Martha Asiimwe.

Last week during a Baraza meeting organized by Mbale city held at Naboa road, Nasike ordered the arrest of Anthony Wanasolo, the City Assistant Engineer in charge of Industrial City Division over that illegal building.

The RCC accused him of approving the construction of that building yet it is seating on the main sewage line and main water trench which takes away storm water from the city center.

However, he was released that same day after getting a police bond as Investigations continued.

What left many baffled is that even after the RCC suspending the construction, construction on the same site is ongoing normally.

This prompted officers from the State House to intervene in the matter.

Drama started after Asumin presented the matter before Major Asiimwe.

Asimwe asked the Mayor to explain why the construction of that illegal building is ongoing against the RCC’s orders.

Cassim Namugali defended the construction of the illegal building saying the State House Officers should first break all buildings constructed on that sewage line from Market street road up to the Taxi Park before stopping the current constructions.

He argued that without doing the above, government will be seen as segregative in fighting illegal construction of buildings in the city.

Namugali revealed that the plot of land belongs to late Aliboto who was a strong NRM cadre and had done lots of good things to the NRM government. He says Aliboto while still alive donated the plot to one of his family members who is currently constructing adding that if that’s how NRM government can pay back Aliboto, then it is okay.

In response, Major Asiimwe promised to carry out thorough investigations into illegal structures in Mbale City before coming up with a decision.
