A suspect arrested in eastern Uganda has confessed to the ritual murder of a teenage student and claimed responsibility for the killings of dozens of other girls before being granted bail, raising serious questions about judicial processes and public safety
The suspect, identified as Fahad Kiranda (27), was arrested in Mayuge District in December 2025 for the alleged defilement and murder of Sumaya Binti Edrisa, a 15-year-old Senior Two student.
Police allege that on March 23, 2025, Kiranda checked into a lodge in Mbale City and later called the receptionist using the victim’s phone, instructing him to check the room where her body was discovered.
During interrogation, Kiranda not only admitted to Binti’s murder but made a much wider confession. According to multiple police sources, he claimed to have killed dozens of other girls—with reports citing 40 to 49 victims. He stated he would take the victims’ blood and left index fingers to a witch doctor in Iganga District in exchange for money
