Police in Budaka District have kicked off investigations into the mysterious death of Nagi Mohammed, 38, whose lifeless body was discovered early Wednesday morning, sparking tension among residents.
According to reports, Nagi, a resident of Nyanza South village, reportedly received a phone call on Tuesday evening from an unknown person directing him to meet at Mailo 5 trading centre. He left home around 8:00 PM but never returned. The following day, his body was found lying unresponsive.
A homicide team led by District CID Officer D/SP Kwebiiha Sarapio, accompanied by the canine unit and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), examined the scene for evidence.
ASP Kyempasa Wilfred, spokesperson for Bukedi North Region, confirmed that no visible injuries were found on the body. “Initial investigations indicate that the deceased may have been murdered at a different location before his body was dumped where it was recovered,” Kyempasa revealed.
Canine tracking later directed police to an abandoned washing bay about 50 metres from the recovery site. However, no suspects have been arrested so far. Authorities are appealing to members of the public to provide any leads that may assist in identifying those behind the killing.
The body has since been transported to Mbale City Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, local leaders are urging residents to remain calm but vigilant, and to cooperate with security forces to ensure the culprits are brought to justice.
