A domestic altercation in Kabarole District has tragically escalated into a full-blown murder investigation following the death of a 25-year-old peasant farmer, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent confrontation involving his girlfriend and her family.
The incident, reported to Rwaihamba Police Post on July 26, has sent shockwaves through the Imaranjara Zone in Kyamukoka Parish, Rutete Sub-County, where the deceased, identified as Amanyire Gilbert, resided.
According to police findings, the conflict began on the night of July 25 after Gilbert — reportedly in a fit of anger — confiscated and burned clothing belonging to his girlfriend, Katusiime Aisha, a Senior Five student at Rutete Secondary School. The quarrel is said to have escalated following this act of provocation.
In what police describe as a retaliatory attack, Aisha, together with her two brothers — Karuhanga and Baguma — and their mother, Kerondoniya Kechimina, allegedly assaulted Gilbert, beating him severely until he lost consciousness.
Gilbert was initially rushed to Rutete Health Centre IV but was later referred to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The case, initially registered as an assault under SD Ref. 17/26/07/2025, has since been upgraded to a murder investigation following confirmation of Gilbert’s death. Detectives from Rwaihamba Police Post, operating under the Rwenzori West policing region, have visited the scene, collected forensic evidence, and recorded statements from eyewitnesses.
The body of the deceased is currently lying at a local mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
So far, Kerondoniya Kechimina, the mother of the prime suspect, has been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, Katusiime Aisha remains at large and is currently being treated as a fugitive. Authorities suspect she may be receiving help to evade arrest.
Police are appealing to the public to report any information that could lead to Aisha’s arrest. Citizens are urged to contact the nearest police station or local council authorities if they have knowledge of her whereabouts.
The incident was first reported by Musabe Muhammad, a 43-year-old UPDF officer attached to Nachwamba, Kamwenge District.
This tragic case underscores the alarming rise in domestic violence and youth-related crime in the region, particularly where unresolved relationship disputes spiral into fatal consequences.
