KWEEN: Stray Buffalo Kills 39-Year-Old Man

There was shock in Kween district on Thursday, 1st August, 2024 after a stray buffalo from Pian- Up game reserve killed one person.

 

The victim has been identified as Stephen Njoran, a resident of Soset Village in Sundet sub-county in Kween district.

 

According to Fredmark Chesang, the Police Spokesperson of Sipi region, the incident occurred on Thursday when Njoran and three others were going to a Maize farm and accidentally came into contact with the buffalo.

 

He explains that preliminary investigations show that, the stray Buffalo has been crossing from the park to the community and hiding in Maize plantations.

 

Kelvin Korir, the chairperson LCI of Sowet Village says that in the past three weeks, the same Buffalo has injured seven people.

 

He adds that despite several complaints to the Uganda Wild Life Authority (UWA) nothing has been done.

 

However, Samuel Amanya, the Chief Warden, of Mt Elgon National Park, said that they are planning to trap the Buffalo and take it back to the game reserve.

 

Amanya asked the community neighboring the game reserve to be vigilant on the wildlife attacks.
