Silvester Bomet, the Commercial Officer of Kween District has been arrested and remanded by the Kapchorwa Magistrate court over theft and extortion.
According to the Sipi region police spokesperson, Fredmark Chesang, Bomet was arrested upon return to Uganda from neighbouring Kenya where he had fled to after learning of his impending arrest.
“He was today Wednesday, 7th August, 2024 arraigned in court and charged with theft and extortion,” says Chesang.
He denied all the charges and was remanded until August 9, 2024.
According to the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kween, Hope Atuhaire, Bomet misappropriated a significant portion of the Emyooga program funds, estimated to be around 80 million shillings.
The Emyoga program is designed to empower individuals to overcome poverty through profitable ventures in agriculture and business.
