Thirty teachers have been arrested after they were found answering examination questions for PLE candidates at Kyakonye Islamic Primary School in Kibuku Town Council, Kibuku District.

The thirty who were arrested on Thursday, 7th November, 2024 were taken to Kibuku Central Police Station where they are still detained.

The arrests were made after an investigation was ordered by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Matiya Mulindwa Kagugube.

Kagugube reported that the government-funded school, which did not have any candidates of its own this year, had arranged for 164 PLE candidates from seven private schools to sit under its center number.

The monitoring team, including Kagugube, an inspector, and an exam supervisor, discovered the malpractice when they found multiple teachers inside classrooms, answering exam questions for the pupils.

Upon being caught, the teachers attempted to flee, but 30 were captured and taken to the police station for questioning.

Authorities are still searching for other individuals involved in the incident.

It is suggested that the school’s poor performance last year led to a decline in enrolment, with some parents pulling their children out over concerns about their academic success.

Getting a comment from Samuel Semewo, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson was futile after not answering our WhatsApp messages with blue ticks or picking our calls to give a comment.

By press time the suspects were still detained at Kibuku police station.
