KCCA Councilors fight at City Hall
The city’s waste management problem has worsened in recent months, with many neighborhoods struggling with health and environmental risks posed by the growing mounds of uncollected rubbish.
Several council members openly expressed their outrage, accusing the executive committee of gross negligence. One councillor voiced his dismay, saying, “This is unacceptable! How can we have a crisis of this magnitude, and the committee can’t even present a simple report? The people of Kampala deserve better.” His sentiments were echoed by others, with another council member adding, “The city is drowning in waste, and we have no clear plan on how to manage it. We need urgent solutions, not delays.”
Clash escalates
A fight broke out amongst the councilors which prompted police to intervene.
As punches flew, some of the representatives were seen using furniture to attack each other.
The inability to present the report, which had been expected to propose actionable solutions to Kampala’s waste crisis, intensified the frustration felt by many in attendance.
Some council members demanded immediate intervention to address the deteriorating situation, while others raised concerns about the executive’s failure to prioritize such a critical issue.

Until a clear plan is unveiled, the waste crisis will continue to pose a significant challenge to the city’s health and well-being.
