Breaking:Kabale University Mourns Sudden Death of First-Year Student

Kabale, Uganda – The student community and management of Kabale University were left in shock on Saturday following the untimely death of Audrey Nayebare, a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Sciences.

Nayebare, a resident of Kicwamba Parish, Ruhinda Sub-County in Rukungiri District, was an alumna of Kashenyi Secondary School in the same district.

According to university officials, the tragic incident occurred during an examination. Nayebare reportedly lost consciousness midway through her exam and was taken out of the examination room for first aid. When her condition did not improve, she was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in Makanga.

Despite medical efforts, her condition worsened, and she was referred for further treatment on Friday evening. Unfortunately, Nayebare passed away before she could be transferred.

Dr. Mesharch Katusiimeh, Associate Professor of Governance and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, where Nayebare was enrolled, described her as an active and inquisitive student who always sought clarity on topics she found challenging during lectures.

In a statement, the university expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting, “For students who have been with her in class, it is a scary experience, very traumatic, and painful to see a colleague in such a state in an examination room.”

The university community has been urged to remain strong during this difficult time as they mourn the loss of a bright and promising student.

Further details will be shared as they become available.
