Tensions are high in Maziba sub-county after angry parents set fire to the home of Monday Expedito, a teacher at Maziba Mixed Primary School, on Tuesday. The parents blame him for strange incidents at the school, which they believe involve evil spirits attacking students. The school was closed by district officials last week due to repeated cases of students falling ill in unusual ways. Parents report that children suffer severe headaches, act strangely, vomit, bang their heads against walls, and some even shout Monday’s name. These symptoms only occur at school and stop when students return home. Frustrated by the lack of answers and fearing for their children’s safety, a group of parents burned down Expedito’s house. The teacher’s whereabouts are unknown, and police have not confirmed any arrests.

Local leaders are urging calm, asking residents to let authorities investigate. “We need to find the real cause without jumping to conclusions,” said a district official. Religious leaders and health experts have been called in to determine if the incidents are spiritual, psychological, or medical.

The school remains closed, and many parents are keeping their children home. The incident has sparked heated debate across the region about beliefs, mental health, and fear in the community. Investigations are ongoing, and Maziba residents await answers.
