A High level meeting chaired by the First Prime Minister, Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga on how to manage Solid Waste in the Kampala Metropolitan area after the Kiteezi Landfill disaster has come out with three resolutions.

 

The meeting held at the prime Minister’s office on Wednesday, 21st August, 2024 included leaders of KCCA and Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

 

According to a press statement dated 22nd August, 2024, KCCA says that all trucks that had been depositing garbage at Kiteezi Landfill will now be diverted to Katikilo in Mukono and Menvu in Busukuma, Nansana Municipality.

 

The meeting also resolved that Ministry of Works should immediately deploy equipment to work on the road access to Katikilo and Menvu.

 

All residents living within the 200M Buffer Zone at Kiteezi Landfill to be relocated to alternative land within the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area with KCCA and Ministry of lands, Housing and Urban Development being the implementers.

 

In the meantime, KCCA urges Kampala City residents to exercise responsible behavior while disposing off wastes as alternative measures are being put in place.
