Mr Jay Sakaria, Vice Chairperson of the Victoria University Council, and Ms Meera Ruparelia, a member of the university’s Board of Directors, represented businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia at the institution’s 10th graduation ceremony held at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
The two attended the milestone event on behalf of Dr Sudhir, chairman of the Ruparelia Group, whose investment and support have played an important role in the university’s development over the years.
Their presence highlighted the Ruparelia family’s continued involvement with Victoria University as the institution strengthens its position in Uganda’s higher education sector.
During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga thanked Dr Sudhir and the Ruparelia Group for their contribution to the university’s growth and progress.
Prof. Muganga specifically recognised Dr Sudhir’s support, describing his contribution as an important pillar in the institution’s development and its efforts to advance its ambitions in Uganda’s increasingly competitive higher education sector.
Dr Sudhir’s representation at the ceremony reflected an occasion that celebrated not only the accomplishments of graduating students but also the leadership and partnerships that have supported the university’s journey.
As Vice Chairperson of the University Council, Sakaria holds a key position in the institution’s governance structure, while Meera’s role on the Board of Directors involves participation in its strategic oversight.
Their attendance connected the university’s leadership and governance with celebrations marking ten years of academic achievement.
The 10th graduation ceremony also comes as Victoria University attracts attention for its reported performance in national higher education rankings. According to the revised institutional ranking report of the National Council for Higher Education, the university scored 87.4, placing it second nationally behind Makerere University.
Having completed its first decade, Victoria University now faces the challenge of building on its progress, maintaining academic standards and equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to Uganda’s social and economic development.
