“I only asked him to leave my seat,” Zaake claims MP Akol was paid by the government to punch him

Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake has provided his account of the events surrounding his assault by fellow MP Akol Anthony of Kilak North during Wednesday’s parliamentary sitting.

Zaake, who is currently admitted to Nsambya Hospital, claims that MP Akol was paid by the government to assault him.

The legislator explains that after addressing his concerns on the floor of parliament, he moved back to his seat, only to find MP Akol occupying it.

“I only asked him to leave my seat. He immediately charged at me, throwing punches targeting my head,” says Zaake.

Regarding his condition following the fight, Zaake says he is experiencing a lot of pain in his head and neck, despite the doctors administering painkillers.

This is not the first time Zaake has been assaulted in parliament. In 2017, during the debate on the removal of the Presidential age limit, the youthful MP was knocked down by Gen. Katumba Wamala. The punch left him bedridden for months. Gen. Katumba Wamala apologized to him but said he acted in self-defense after a scuffle had erupted inside the plenary.
