Kampala Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Shamim Malende has openly confirmed that her marriage to longtime partner Andrew Ssebunya has ended.
Addressing journalists, the outspoken legislator stressed that the separation is permanent and cautioned the public against dealing with Ssebunya under her name.
“Whoever engages with Ssebunya does so at their own risk. He is no longer a representative of Shamim Malende. Each of us is now on our own,” she declared.
Malende explained that the public announcement was necessary because of the deep personal and professional ties she had shared with her estranged partner. She revealed that Ssebunya once had access to most aspects of her life, including her supporters, networks, and even her digital platforms.
“This announcement is important because almost everything of mine, I had made him part of it — my social media accounts, friends, diehards, and family. He was part of it,” she noted.
The MP further appealed to tech-savvy Ugandans to help her regain access to her social media accounts, which she says were taken over by Ssebunya.
“I have invested in these accounts for more than eight years, but now I can’t access them or upload my own content,” she lamented.
Her remarks have sparked nationwide conversations on the dangers of blurring the lines between personal relationships and professional or digital assets, especially at a time when social media is a critical political tool.
Malende also hinted at receiving threats from unknown individuals, claiming that she now lives in fear. She warned that her safety could be at risk if the matter is not addressed.
As of press time, Andrew Ssebunya has not issued any official response to the separation or the claims regarding control of her social media handles.
