Police in Rubanda District have confirmed the tragic death of a 22-year-old Kabale University student, Mugarura Victor, who was found hanged at his home in Hamurara Cell, Bubare Town Council. The incident, reported as a suicide, has shocked the local community and triggered an outpouring of grief.
Victor was a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Agriculture and Land Use Management at Kabale University. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to his heartbreaking decision.A handwritten note left behind by Mugarura has since surfaced, revealing his inner torment and sorrow. In a message titled “DEATH NOTE!!!”, he apologized to his loved ones, expressing hopelessness and frustration with life.
“I am sorry for this disappointment but hope you will forgive me. I also didn’t expect it, but this is what life is. Dear God, forgive me all my sins (AMEN). LIFE IS SCUM. Yours, MUGARURA VICTOR,” the letter read.Family and friends have been left devastated by the sudden loss. Many have described him as a bright and kind young man with a promising future.
In response, Kabale University released a heartfelt statement mourning their student. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Victor Mugarura… Your smile, spirit, and kindness will never be forgotten,” it read.The university extended condolences to the bereaved and urged students affected by the tragedy to seek psychological support.
The incident has sparked fresh conversations around student mental health in Uganda.Grief counselors have been deployed to assist students and staff during this difficult time.
