Heartbreak and Chaos: Tamale Mirundi’s Family in Crisis as Kyengera Church Refuses To Pray For His Body

Posted on

Priests at Kyengera Church reportedly opted against holding a requiem mass for the late Joseph Tamale Mirundi. The decision, according to sources, stemmed from the absence of Mirundi’s family members during the mass service.

The news was announced by Josephat Sseguya, known for his self-styled role as the “gossip news president,” on Bukedde TV.

Sseguya remarked, “Kelezia e Kyengera eganye okusabira Tamale Mirundi kuba ffamire ye babadde tebagiraba mu kusaba,” implying that the church’s refusal was due to the family’s lack of attendance at the mass.

In the aftermath of Mirundi’s death, the executor of his will has been working to ensure his final wishes are honored. This includes moving Mirundi’s body to various locations and organizing the slaughter of two bulls as part of the ceremonial rites for the mourners.

Mourners are expected to stay in Kyengera for the next two nights, with the body scheduled to be transported to his ancestral village on Sunday. However, one of the more challenging requests—to bury Mirundi vertically—may prove difficult to fulfill.

Throughout his life, Tamale Mirundi was deeply devoted to his elderly mother, Molly Namatovu. He often attributed his success to her unwavering support.

The close bond between them means that Mirundi’s death has hit Namatovu particularly hard, given her own frail health.Namatovu lives in their family home in Kalisizo Kalagala, Kyotera District, where Mirundi will be laid to rest.

John Ssali, Mirundi’s elder brother who played a crucial role in raising and educating him, has expressed grave concern over their mother’s state.

Ssali, who was also Mirundi’s neighbor in Zzana Lufuuka, shared that he recently spoke with their mother. She was understandably distraught and even mentioned wanting to find a hammer to end her life so she could be buried alongside her son.

This heartbreaking detail underscores the profound grief and emotional turmoil that Mirundi’s death has wrought on his family.
