In light of the upcoming nationwide protests, the Permanent Secretary of Education, Mr. Kehinde Jimoh, has issued a directive for the immediate closure of all schools. Speaking on Monday evening, Mr. Jimoh emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of students and urged parents to take full custody of their wards before the protests commence.

The statement mandates that both public and private schools should proceed with their third-term vacation starting from Wednesday, July 31, 2023. Mr. Jimoh’s announcement is aimed at safeguarding students amid the anticipated disruptions caused by the protests.

“This is to inform the general public, particularly parents, guardians, and heads of both public and private schools in the state, that due to the planned nationwide protests, all schools are directed to proceed on the third term vacation from Wednesday, July 31, 2023,” the statement read. “Parents and guardians are advised to ensure the safety of their wards during the vacation.”

The government’s decision reflects concerns over the potential impact of the protests on educational institutions and the well-being of students. By preemptively closing schools, the authorities aim to mitigate any risks and ensure that children remain safe at home.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to make necessary arrangements to accommodate their children during this unexpected break. The education department will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as needed. The safety and security of students remain the top priority during this period of nationwide unrest.
