Gittens, Guirassy players to watch in Stuttgart v Dortmund humdinger – The Kampala Report

Posted on

Three rapid step overs interspersed by a drop of a shoulder, a little shimmie and thunderous shot is all it took for Jamie Gittens to extinguish Club Brugge’s Uefa Champions League resistance as Borussia Dortmund won 3-0 in Belgium to extend their unbeaten start to the season under Nuri Sahin to five games.

Remember here we are not talking about stiff Cristiano Ronaldo step overs which fool no one. The 20-year-old Signal Iduna Park rising star formerly known as Bynoe Gittens is so malleable, you might think he’s boneless. This allows him to lower his center of gravity to aid the process of turning defenders into mincemeat.

His brace on Wednesday night was his second this season as he earlier put Eintracht Frankfurt to the sword in a not too dissimilar manner. No wonder compatriot and former team mate, Jude Bellingham, who is favorite to make the shortlist for this season’s Ballon D’Or, thinks Gittens will be in the running for the Golden Boy award given to the best under 21 player in world football.

Sahin will be hard pressed not to give Gittens, who’s so far been restricted to brief cameos, more playing time when Dortmund travel to Sebastian Hoeness’ well chiseled Stuttgart on Sunday. Fireworks can be expected from this trip that reunites former Stuttgart top scorer Serhou Guirassy with former striking partner Denis Undav who was in irrepressible form despite the team’s 1-3 setback at Real Madrid.

Record champions Bayern Munich can send an even more stern message to the rest of the Bundesliga if they continue their rich vein of goal scoring form at Werder Bremen on Saturday. Vincent Kompany’s Bavarians on Tuesday bludgeoned Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 to increase their tally for the season to 24 goals from just five matches.

Top scorer Harry Kane will be a marked man after he followed up his hat trick in the 6-1 rout of Holstein Kiel by plundering a foursome against Dinamo Zagreb. On current form, it’s hard to bet against him retaining the European Golden Shoe he won at a canter last season.
