Gen Kainerugaba was among the distinguished guests attending the inauguration at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium, a grand event that featured spirited musical performances and an impressive military parade. The ceremony underscored Kagame’s continued influence and leadership in Rwanda and the East African region.

Arriving in Kigali on Saturday evening, Gen Kainerugaba was welcomed by his counterpart, Gen Muganga, and other senior RDF officials. Accompanying him was a delegation that included Major General James Birungi, Brigadier General Richard Karemire, Alexander Akandwanaho, and journalist Andrew Mwenda.

During his stay in Kigali, Gen Kainerugaba, who also serves as the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, is scheduled to engage in talks with President Kagame and Gen Muganga. These discussions are expected to focus on the bilateral relationship between Uganda and Rwanda, particularly in light of Gen Kainerugaba’s pivotal role in recent efforts to mend ties between the two nations.

In the past, tensions between Uganda and Rwanda have led to significant disruptions in trade and the movement of people across their shared border. However, diplomatic initiatives spearheaded by Gen Kainerugaba have been instrumental in easing these tensions, paving the way for improved relations.

The meeting between Gen Kainerugaba and the Rwandan leadership is seen as a continuation of these efforts to strengthen cooperation and stability in the region. As the visit unfolds, it is anticipated that the discussions will further solidify the relationship between Uganda and Rwanda, reinforcing the collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring peace and prosperity for both nations.
