Police in Kampala have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which one of their own knocked dead a wife to a former minister.
Florence Taka, the wife to Julius Maganda, the former minister for state for East African affairs was on Sunday evening knocked dead at Kitukutwe along the Kiwologoma-Nakwero road in Wakiso district in Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.
Traffic Police spokesperson, Michael Kananura said the accident involved a Toyota Harrier registration number UAM 516B in which the deceased was and a Toyota Premio being driven by a policeman.
“According to eyewitnesses, the Toyota Harrier had pulled over to the side of the road, and the co-driver (deceased) had stepped out to load food items purchased from a nearby stall.
Tragically, the driver of Premio, traveling in the same direction, lost control and rammed into the Harrier, pinning Taka Florence between the vehicles. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Taka Florence succumbed to her severe injuries,”Kananura said.
He noted that the Premio which lost control was being driven by Constable Wilber Nuwagaba while ASP Achilles Atwebembere the Community Liaison Officer for Kira Division Police who was also an occupant in the vehicle was also injured and currently receiving medical attention.
Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction. Police said both vehicles have been towed to Kira Division Police Station for inspection as investigations into the accident continue.
