FDC leaders in Kasese warn members against Katonga faction’s new political party – The Kampala Report

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leadership in Kasese District is urging its members not to join the Katonga faction, which is seeking to form a new political party.

On Tuesday, the faction applied to the Electoral Commission (EC) to reserve the name “People’s Front for Freedom” (PFF), signaling the start of another splinter group from the main FDC party.

Kasese has traditionally been a stronghold for the FDC, producing six members of parliament and a majority of local government leaders in the 2016 general elections.

Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Kasese District FDC Chairperson, stated that it is not possible for the FDC to be dissolved, and the legitimate leadership has no such intentions.

He believes there is still room for reconciliation to address political differences within the party.

Kabuku also appealed to FDC members to remain focused on growing the party’s membership ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Meanwhile, Robert Centenary, the party’s Western Region President and former Kasese Municipality MP, mentioned that if the Katonga faction forms a new political party, it could help FDC supporters navigate the ongoing confusion.

Jovia Biira, a party mobilizer from Hima Town Council, noted that while the Katonga faction is free to create a new political party, its leaders should not focus on “ending” the legitimate FDC party.
