Market vendors in Kitooro central ward in Entebbe Municipality were surprised by MTN Uganda after one of their fellow market vendors was gifted with a new brand double cabin pick up to help transport and vend her fruits to different places.

The beneficiary identified as Night Ampurire was officially handed over the brand new double cabin pick by MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge during a weekly open market day on Tuesday August, 27, 2024. The MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer, Sylvia Mulinge, explained that the donation signifies the telecommunication’s commitment to empowering local business entrepreneurs.

“At MTN Uganda, we believe in the power of community and the importance of uplifting each other. Night Ampurire’s story is a powerful reminder of the determination and resilience that define our people. We are both honored and proud to support her journey and hope that this new pickup truck will help her expand her business and ensure her safety, and that of other road users as she continues to provide for her family and serve both her community and clientele better.”

Mrs. Mulinge noted that  MTN Uganda got concerned of the plight of the beneficiary following a video clip on social media showing her vending watermelons and pineapples on an  old Nissan Pickup truck registration number UAD 085B, which she paid in installments to a tune of Shs. 3.5 million.

She added that MTN Uganda remains committed to supporting the growth and development of local businesses across the country, recognizing that small and medium enterprises are crucial to the nation’s economic prosperity.

“Through initiatives like this, the company continues to demonstrate its dedication to the communities it serves.’

Ampurire, a single mother with five children mothered from different dads has been transporting and vending watermelons and pineapples on her worn-out pickup since 2015 and she always faced it rough with traffic police for driving a car in dangerous mechanical conditions.

Despite her dedication and the critical role her business plays in supporting her family, Ampurire’s vehicle had fallen into a state of disrepair, making it increasingly difficult and dangerous for her to carry out her daily operations. The state of her old vehicle, which was deteriorating with each passing day, was putting her life at risk. However, despite these challenges, Ampurire continued to push forward, demonstrating remarkable resilience and determination.

Ampurire expressed her gratitude saying:

“This is a dream come true for me and my family. MTN Uganda has not only given me a new vehicle but also the hope and strength to keep pushing forward. I am deeply thankful for their support, and I am excited about what the future holds for my business.”
