Uganda’s prominent businessman, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, joined members of the Indian community at State House Entebbe to celebrate Diwali the Festival of Lights at an event graced by President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni.
The vibrant celebration drew hundreds of Indians residing in Uganda, diplomats, and leading business personalities who gathered to honor one of the most cherished festivals in Indian culture.

Recognized as a leading figure within Uganda’s Indian business community, Dr. Sudhir played a central role in the ceremony, which underscored the long-standing partnership and shared development goals between Uganda and India. His presence reflected the deep confidence that Indian investors continue to place in Uganda’s stable political climate and favorable investment environment.
As chairman of the Ruparelia Group, his extensive investments in sectors such as real estate, banking, education, hospitality, and agriculture have further solidified ties between the two nations. His influence continues to motivate both Ugandans and Indians to embrace entrepreneurship as a driver of economic transformation.
President Museveni, in his address, lauded the Indian community for their enduring contribution to Uganda’s socio-economic progress. He highlighted the role of Indian-owned factories, service businesses, and commercial enterprises in generating employment and transferring valuable skills.
“I am happy that when we invited them back after the mistakes of the past, they returned and believed in Uganda once again. I appreciate that trust,” President Museveni remarked.
He also described the Indian community’s discipline, resilience, and strong business values as qualities that have set a standard within Uganda’s private sector.
The evening featured cultural performances, candle lighting, and a communal dinner that symbolized unity, renewal, and hope the true spirit of Diwali. Dr. Sudhir’s involvement reaffirmed his role as a bridge between Uganda’s business sector and the Indian community.
As the celebrations concluded, the message was unmistakable: Diwali 2025 was not only a night of lights, but a testament to partnership, progress, and appreciation led by one of Uganda’s most influential business leaders, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia.
