Business magnate Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has officially launched an upscale Pool Pavilion at Speke Resort Munyonyo, reinforcing the lakeside venue’s status as Uganda’s top festive-season retreat.
The lavish multi-million-shilling addition upgrades the resort’s iconic Olympic-sized pool Kampala’s sole such facility since 2000 into an exclusive leisure space. It now includes shaded cabanas, infinity-edge waterfalls, premium loungers, and dedicated cocktail service, all offering panoramic views of Lake Victoria.
Chairman of the Ruparelia Group, Dr. Sudhir, framed the pavilion as the evolution of a vision that started more than twenty years ago. “Munyonyo was once a quiet village. Our humble family retreat, with a pool under mango trees, has now matured into a world-class establishment that reflects Uganda’s possibilities,” he stated.
Covering an additional 5,000 square feet, the open-air structure can accommodate 500 guests and includes modular stages for live performances, corporate events, and luxury gatherings. It complements the resort’s existing amenities such as the equestrian centre, spa, gym, and conference facilities positioning it as a prime venue for year-end festivities and events into 2026.
The unveiling aligns with special holiday offers featuring all-inclusive stays with pavilion access, aimed at drawing domestic and regional visitors. Tourism analysts expect the new facility to enhance Kampala’s nightlife and conference appeal, aiding national goals to reach four million annual tourists by 2030.
Some environmental advocates have called for closer oversight of the development’s effects on Lake Victoria’s ecology, especially nearby bird habitats within the 90-acre property. The Ruparelia Group maintains that the pavilion operates on solar energy and zero-waste protocols, adhering fully to Uganda Tourism Board standards.
Since its launch in 2001 and its role as a venue for the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, Speke Resort Munyonyo has accommodated heads of state, celebrities, and international conferences. The new Pool Pavilion marks Dr. Sudhir’s latest strategic enhancement at 69, merging sharp business vision with opulent hospitality to keep Uganda prominently positioned on the global tourism stage.
