Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda is the new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Sports. She replace Ketty Lamaro, whose contract was not renewed by President Museveni. The appointment, which had been speculated on earlier, was confirmed by Education Minister Janet Kataha Museveni in a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account.

“I congratulate Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda on her appointment as the new Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education. I thank Dr. Jane Egau Okou, the Under Secretary in the Ministry who served in the acting position, for her contributions. I have full confidence in her collaborative efforts with Dr. Turyagyenda,” Mrs. Museveni wrote on the platform.

Dr. Turyagyenda’s career in education spans decades, beginning as a secondary school teacher. She rose through the ranks to join the Education Inspectorate, where she served as Commissioner for Secondary Education Standards. She retired at the rank of Director of Education Standards, a department tasked with ensuring quality education across the country. In addition, she was actively involved in several governance bodies of educational institutions.

At the time of the new appointment, Dr. Turyagyenda was a member of the Amanya Mushega-led Education Policy Review Commission. Her academic credentials include a Doctorate in Education Management from Nkumba University, a Master of Science from Leicester University in the UK, and both a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma in Education from Makerere University, Uganda.
