Bulambuli police have arrested a 17-year-old girl, Jennifer Khalayi for stealing a 3-month-old baby from Sipi Village, Bwikhonge Sub County.
The incident occurred on 3rd Sept 2026 at around 11:30 am when the mother, Nambuya Flavia, was attending prayers at a Born-Again Church.
According to Rogers Taitika, Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, the suspect stole the baby Faith Nambuya while the mother had left her in the care of a 10-year-old girl.
He says the baby was later recovered at Jesus Celebration Church in Muyembe Sub County and handed over to the police, who returned her to her mother.
Khalayi, a resident of Busoba Village, Bwikhonge Sub County, was traced and arrested in Mbale City and is currently being detained at Bulambuli Police Station for interrogation.
The mother, Nambuya Flavia, a 36-year-old Gisu by tribe, reported the incident to the police, leading to the swift recovery of her child and the arrest of the suspect.
She says she had given the baby to a10 year old girl and latter after asking for the baby, it was discovered that baby had been stolen from her.
Taitika warned the mothers to be vigilant about the people they tend to make friendships with while in congregations.
