BUGISU: BCU Sets New Coffee Prices For Current Season

Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) has today 10th September, 2024 announced the new coffee prices for the upcoming season. The board, led by Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has set the price at 12,000 Ugandan Shillings per kilogram for premium coffee and 11,500 Ugandan Shillings for G1 coffee, inclusive of transport and commission costs.

 

The new season has already started with farming getting their first harvests.

 

BCU board treasurer, Nathan Mabonga, emphasized their commitment to maintaining favorable coffee prices, while also working on improving payment systems to ensure cash is paid out instantly. He explained that the system needs to accommodate the large number of farmers under BCU.

 

Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the board chairman, urged farmers to avoid selling their coffee to multinational companies, accusing them of exploiting farmers. He stressed that if all Bamasaaba farmers supplied their coffee to BCU, their needs would be met efficiently and in a timely manner.

 

Barbara Wasagali, the General Manager, stressed that they will be vigilant about maintaining quality, which is of utmost importance. She explained that all coffee will undergo thorough inspections before being poured into the hoppers. Wasagali urged all farmers to bring only high-quality coffee to the union, reassuring them that payments will be made in cash.

 

BCU’s primary goal is to collect coffee from local farmers and secure favorable market opportunities for them.
