BUGIRI: Asst Town Clerk, 5 Others Remanded for Messing Up PDM Program

BUGIRI

 

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit in conjunction with the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions has arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court Bugiri an Assistant Town Clerk and five others for allegedly mismanaging PDM funds.

 

The six who appeared before the Chief Magistrate on Monday, 9th September, 2024 are the Assistant Town Clerk, Busowa Town Council, a Parish Chief of Buwanga sub county, Busowa parish and 4 PDM SACCO leaders of Busowa Town Council.

 

The accused are; Mugunda Azedy- Assistant Town Clerk, Busowa Town Council/Community Development Officer, Maka Christopher- Parish Chief, Bupala and Busoga Parish, Kawudhu Mathias- C/Person, Nawandhuki Busowa Saaco, Balidawa Stephen- C/person Nakidudula Busowa Saaco,  Makiika Stephen- C/person Nakawa Busowa Saaco and Waiswa Hassan- Businessman.

 

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the six are accused of several charges of Obtaining Money by False Pretense and Conspiracy to defraud.

 

These along with others who are still at large between January and June 2024 in Bugiri District, conspired and defrauded millions of shillings from the beneficiaries of different PDM SACCOS by falsely pretending that the money they were collecting was for PDM activities such as; Renting space, buying furniture, printing vouchers, PDM files, appraisals, and photographs where as not.

 

Additionally, they charged fees to each beneficiary of their SACCOs which is against PDM guidelines

 

They have been remanded until 23/09/2024.
