A Gateway Bus driver is one of the seven people who have this morning, 19th August, 2024 died in a fatal road accident at Kirumba along Masaka-Mbarara Highway.
According to Road Safety and Traffic Police Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, the accident occurred at 4:00AM this morning involving a Gateway Bus registration Number UPQ 621Z and a Fuso lorry, UBM 673K.
Kananura says that the accident was caused when the Gateway Bus heading to Masaka from Mbarara tried to overtake a line of vehicles therefore drifting to the opposite lane leading to a head-on collision with the Fuso truck heading to Mbarara.
The accident claimed the life of the Gateway Bus driver, and five other passengers leaving 37 critically injured including the Fuso lorry driver.
The deceased bodies have been conveyed to Kyanzanga hospital for postmortem while the vehicles are at Kyanzanga Police Station for further management.
