Mbarara, Uganda – Police in Mbarara City have arrested 27-year-old boda boda rider Richard Agumaniiwe for allegedly attempting to murder a senior police officer during President Museveni’s campaign visit.
The incident occurred on Monday around 4:00 PM at the Kikona–Ruti Town Road junction along the Mbarara–Kabale Road. SP Ocaya Kennedy, Officer in Charge of Mbarara City South Division, was managing traffic to allow the President’s motorcade to pass from Rwampara District to Mbarara City for the second rally of the day.
According to police reports, SP Ocaya instructed Agumaniiwe, who was riding a Yamaha motorcycle registered UAC 177Z, to move aside. Instead of complying, the rider allegedly accelerated and deliberately rammed into the officer, leaving him injured.
Police have confirmed that Agumaniiwe is now in custody, and investigations into the attempted attack are ongoing.
