Bobi Wine Visits Kizza Besigye and Other Political Prisoners at Luzira Upper Prison

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has visited veteran opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye at Luzira Upper Prison.

The visit, which took place on Sunday afternoon, comes amid ongoing concerns about Besigye’s health and the prolonged detention of political prisoners in Uganda.

According to a statement shared by Bobi Wine on social media, Besigye appeared to be in much better health compared to his previous condition when NUP leaders attempted to visit him.

During their meeting, Besigye urged opposition supporters to remain steadfast and united in their struggle for political freedom. He reiterated his belief that Ugandans, whether inside or outside prison, are all living under different forms of captivity.

Bobi Wine and his delegation also checked on other detained political activists, including Bobi Young and Muyodi Hamidu.

He expressed disappointment over their continued incarceration without trial, noting that despite a Supreme Court ruling, their cases have not been transferred to civilian courts.

“It is most unfortunate that the criminal regime continues to detain them without trial,” Bobi Wine stated.

The NUP president emphasized the need for sustained public pressure against what he termed as judicial and political oppression.

The visit underscores the ongoing political tensions in Uganda, where opposition figures frequently face arrests and imprisonment.

Supporters of Besigye and Bobi Wine continue to call for their release and an end to politically motivated detentions.
