“Bobi Wine Should Have Told Us He Needed a Lawyer, Not a Foot Soldier Like Me” – Nsereko Cries Out

Businessman Moses Nsereko was left devastated on Tuesday after failing to secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket for the upcoming Kawempe North parliamentary by-election. His disappointment was clear as he struggled to hold back tears.

Nsereko finished ninth out of ten candidates, managing only 14.2% of the vote. The party’s endorsement instead went to lawyer Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, who secured a strong 71.4% victory.

As the results were announced, Nsereko, visibly shaken, asked those around him to leave him alone. “First leave. I am not feeling well, guys. Leave and get some rest,” he said, unable to hide his emotions.

His supporters rushed to his side, trying to comfort him. Some fanned him, while others helped remove his shoes to ease his distress. “I need water,” he pleaded, still in shock over the outcome.

Nalukoola’s victory came after a tough contest, with several strong contenders, including Muhammad Lussa Luwemba, a former aide to the late MP Muhammad Ssegirinya. Luwemba even went as far as changing his name and religion, hoping for divine favour in securing the ticket.

The Kawempe North seat became vacant after Ssegirinya passed away on January 9. He had won the constituency for NUP in 2021, making it a stronghold for the opposition party.

Still struggling to come to terms with his loss, Nsereko later reflected on the results. “My president, Bobi Wine, should have told us that he needed a lawyer to replace Anthony Wameli (RIP) rather than a foot soldier like me,” he said, expressing his frustration.

The by-election is set for March 13, with NUP widely expected to retain the seat.
