Angry Mob Sets On Fire Two Suspected Motorcycle Thieves

An angry mob in Mutufu town council in Sironko district on Tuesday evening, 14th January, 2025 lynched two Boda Boda motorcycle suspected thieves and later set fire on the bodies.

The suspects have been identified as Amuza Nabubolo, aged 25 and a resident of Bumunyolo Cell, Busesan Ward, Buweri Town Council Sironko District and Ramadan Gonyi, 43 years and a resident of Kolotosi village, Bugwagi parish, Nalusale Sub County in Sironko District.

Trouble for the duo started when the night before, unknown people broke into the house of Sam Magumba, a resident of Chikoje Cell, Chikoje Ward, Mutufu Town Council and took his Boda Boda motorcycle registration number UBJ 548T.

Philemon Modoi, one of the area residents says that locals saw the two on the motorcycle concluded that they were the ones who stole Magumba’s motorcycle.

He says locals armed with stones, bricks, sticks intercepted them and started beating them to death then torched their bodies and motorcycles they were using.

Denis Ephraime Balwaniregha, the Sironko Resident District Commissioner confirmed the incident saying locals poured petrol on the two bodies and the motorcycle they were riding and set them on fire.

He says that they took the burnt bodies to Mbale city mortuary for a postmortem but the motorcycle was completely burnt.

The RDC cautioned locals against taking the law into their hands saying they should be reporting such suspects to police or local leaders.

SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson when contacted on phone also confirmed the incident saying they have registered a case of murder Vide: CRB:042/2025 as investigations continue.
