A tragic accident has claimed the life of an 88-year-old man who attempted to fly a homemade helicopter, only for it to break apart moments after takeoff.

According to witnesses, the elderly man, whose identity has not yet been released, had been working on the makeshift aircraft for months, proudly telling neighbors he was ready for his “first real flight.” The incident occurred in his backyard, where he had set up a small makeshift helipad.

Eyewitnesses say the helicopter lifted a few feet off the ground before violently shaking. Within seconds, critical parts began detaching mid-air, causing the aircraft to lose balance and crash. Despite efforts from bystanders to rush him to the hospital, the man was pronounced dead on arrival.

Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the structural failure, though preliminary reports suggest mechanical flaws and lack of proper safety checks may have contributed to the disaster.

Neighbors described the man as a determined and adventurous spirit who had a lifelong fascination with aviation. His death has sparked conversations on the dangers of unregulated homemade aircraft and the need for safety compliance even in personal projects.

Police have cordoned off the crash site as aviation experts inspect the wreckage for clues.
