Albert Ssesanga Kiragga, a pioneering engineer and community leader has died – The Kampala Report

Eng. Albert Ssesanga Kiragga Dr. St. Joseph Balikuddembe, a well-known broadcast engineer and respected parish leader, died in the middle of the morning on Sunday, September 8, 2024.

Eng. Albert dedicated his life to public service, particularly in radio and community development. This has had a long-term impact on many people’s lives and institutions in Uganda.

Albert was born on January 29, 1952, and began working at Radio Uganda as a Technical Assistant in 1972.

Over the course of more than 30 years, he worked tirelessly to improve Ugandan broadcasting, eventually rising to the position of Principal Engineer at Radio Uganda.

Aside from his technical skills, Albert played a key role in the upgrades and installations of broadcasting studios throughout the country, including those for Capital Radio, Radio Maria, Monitor FM (later KFM), and Top Radio.

Eng. Albert’s technical education was extensive. After completing telecommunications courses at City and Guilds, he went to the Deutsche Welle Training Center in Germany for more advanced training.

He clearly wanted to continue learning throughout his life, as he attended numerous workshops and refresher courses to improve his studio operations, sound systems, and digital broadcasting technologies.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Eng. Albert worked hard to help others.

He led Village 13’s RC1 and served as Vice President of the Catholic Association of Broadcasters. He also worked hard as choir director at St. Lwanga Catholic Sub-parish (later elevated to parish status), as well as St. Joseph Balikuddembe and Namiryango Parishes.

He was in charge of many committees in the Lugazi Diocese and the Kampala Archdiocese. He was also a member of the Music Directors and Composers Association, which aimed to promote music and communication within the Catholic Church.

Eng. Albert was committed to developing talent in the industry, so he trained many interns and industrial trainees at Radio Uganda. This cemented his reputation as a mentor who provided the necessary tools for future engineers and broadcasters to succeed.

People will remember him not only for his professional abilities, but also for his kindness, humility, generosity, and commitment to making others better.

Eng. Albert Ssesanga Kiragga was an extraordinary man who lived his life to the fullest and will be remembered for the values he upheld, which included humility, service, integrity, and community.

The requiem mass honoring Eng. Albert’s life will be held at St. Joseph Balikuddembe Parish Kiwanga, which is located opposite Jomayi Stones in Namanve.
