Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has made remarks on social media directed at opposition figures Dr. Kizza Besigye and Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.
On his X account, Muhoozi posted, “Besigye has not died yet?? I’m going to hang him! I will also hang ANYONE who tries to save him.”
He also wrote, “After I finish with Besigye, I’m coming for this baboon,” referring to Bobi Wine. “I still need all his monkey teeth.”
He later added, “Let me apologise to Ugandans for the actions I’m about to take on NUP! They are going to suffer.”
This is not the first time Muhoozi has made strong remarks about opposition leaders. Last month, he posted about Bobi Wine, saying,
“If Mzee was not there, I would cut off his head today.”
Bobi Wine later responded, saying, “I’ve come across his uncoordinated messages that he writes overnight. Before you get angry at him, you need to first forgive him. While his threats are concerning, I don’t fear taking him on and his father.”
Muhoozi also taunted Bobi Wine with the statement: “Finally! I woke you up? Before I behead you, repay us the money we loaned you,” implying the government had supported Bobi Wine’s political activities.
Bobi Wine dismissed this claim, questioning why the government continued to persecute him if it had indeed helped fund his work.
Muhoozi has previously made statements on social media that sparked discussions. In 2022, he posted a threat to invade neighbouring Kenya but later apologized for the remarks, clarifying that they were not official statements.
As the 2026 elections approach, his latest remarks have added to concerns about the political climate in Uganda. Human rights groups have often raised concerns about the government’s treatment of political opposition.
