A forensics expert who examined the late Henry Katanga’s DNA and matched it with that of his widow  Molly Katanga and their daughters testified before the High Court in Kampala as the 8th Prosecution’s witness.

The Acting Director of Forensic Services of  Uganda Police, Andrew Kizimula Mubiru told the court that he received requests from police to examine several exhibits which included the killer pistol and bullet.

He testified that he picked DNA samples from Molly Katanga dresses and IHK hospital bed sheets.

Mubiru informed trial Judge, Isaac  Muwata that among the many exhibits he received for DNA  analysis were also swabs of suspected blood collected from the scene of the crime in the couple’s master bedroom,  shower room, door handles, and up on the ceiling of the house.  Furthermore, the samples were picked from a baton, a walking stick, and brain matter.

The Court also heard that samples of swabs from Molly Katanga’s right hand and the late Katanga’s left hand were also submitted for DNA testing.

Defence lawyers had sought to throw out  Mubiru from the witness box saying he had not recorded a police statement and yet his DNA report disclosed by the prosecution missed some information prompting the court to stand over for 30 minutes to have the original report produced.

The prosecution accused Molly Katanga of murdering her husband on November 2nd, 2023 by shooting him at their home located in Mbuya Chwa 2 Road in Nakawa Division Kampala District.

The other co-accused are her Katanga’s daughters  Martha Nkwanzi and Patricia Kankwanzi and then their family shamba boy, George Amanyire, and Charles Otai a Nursing Officer.

These are facing charges related to tampering and destroying evidence that could have been used to find Henry Katanga’s killers. They are also accused of aiding and abetting the crime (being an accessory after the fact of murder).

The case was adjourned to  Wednesday for Mubiru to testify on his findings.
