Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a political commentator and presidential adviser on media issues, has died.
According to family members, the former presidential press secretary died of lung complications on Tuesday around 11:40 p.m. at Kisubi Hospital.
“He has been hospitalised for over a month. He started to show signs of improvement. On Sunday and Monday, he appeared fine. The doctors said he had water in his lungs. They have been sucking it out. However, his health deteriorated Tuesday, and when they tried to suck the fluid out, it was blood,” one of his sons stated in a media report.
Mirundi was fired as President Museveni’s press secretary on July 2015, after serving nearly 13 years.
Since then, he has appeared on various television political talk shows, as well as online media channels and blogs, commenting on politics and current affairs in the country.
Born in 1964 to Molly Namatovu and Yowana Mirundi, the outspoken National Resistance Movement (NRM) members attended Rubaga Senior Secondary School before enrolling to Makerere University.
