Police in eastern Uganda are probing a horrific case of suspected domestic violence in Luuka District, where a man is believed to have killed his wife and her one-year-old child before taking his own life by hanging in a swamp.
The deceased have been identified as Joshua Mukisa, his partner Winnie Kafuko, and her infant child. The tragic incident took place in Bugonza Village, Ikumbya sub-county. On Wednesday, villagers found Mukisa’s body hanging from a tree in a nearby swamp. A further search uncovered the mutilated bodies of Kafuko and her child nearby.
According to Wilberforce Ntumba, the local LC3 chairperson, residents first reported the discovery of a body in the swamp, followed shortly by the grim finding of the woman and child. Mukisa is believed to have left a note at the scene, confessing to the killings before ending his own life. Initial reports suggest Kafuko and her child were lured to the swamp, where they were attacked. Ntumba noted that Mukisa had recently married Kafuko, who had brought her child into the relationship.
Paul Buyinza, Kafuko’s father, expressed shock at his son-in-law’s alleged actions. He described Mukisa as a quiet, soft-spoken individual who avoided conflict and public events like political gatherings, making his actions difficult to comprehend.
Police have not yet released an official statement, but investigations are ongoing to uncover the full details of this tragedy.
