Kampala Parents’ School (KPS) brought its second term to a colourful close with a lively Culture & Future Day, an event that united pupils, teachers and parents in celebrating Uganda’s diverse cultural heritage. Businessman and philanthropist Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, the school’s proprietor, was among those who attended the Saturday celebrations, which transformed the school into a vibrant display of traditional music, dance, clothing and customs.
The celebration provided pupils with an opportunity to showcase cultures from different parts of Uganda, including the Central, Eastern, Western and Northern regions, while also highlighting traditions from Southern Uganda, East Africa and other parts of the world. Learners performed cultural dances, wore traditional outfits and shared stories reflecting the backgrounds and communities they represented.
A strong message of togetherness ran throughout the event. Although pupils presented different cultures and traditions, the celebrations demonstrated how diversity can bring people together rather than divide them. Each performance added to a broader picture of Uganda’s cultural identity while giving learners an opportunity to appreciate traditions beyond their own.
Parents and school organisers also emphasised the importance of presenting the different cultures respectfully and authentically. The event was therefore not simply an entertainment programme, but an opportunity for pupils to understand the significance of heritage and the different identities that contribute to Uganda’s national character.
For one parent, the occasion reflected the spirit of the school’s motto, “We Struggle for the Future.” The message was particularly relevant because the event connected the preservation of cultural heritage with preparing children for life ahead.
By exposing pupils to different traditions, KPS encouraged them to understand their roots while developing an appreciation for people from different backgrounds. The celebration demonstrated that knowledge of one’s heritage can help young people develop confidence and a stronger sense of identity as they prepare to engage with an increasingly interconnected world.
The cultural presentations also had an important educational dimension. Teachers used the occasion to help learners gain practical knowledge about Uganda’s communities, traditions and customs in a way that went beyond the classroom.
School officials said the programme reflected values that remain central to the institution, including respect, curiosity, cultural awareness and openness. Through activities of this nature, pupils are encouraged to appreciate differences while recognising the common values that connect communities.
Guests and parents who attended described the celebrations as impressive, praising the pupils for their performances and the school for creating an environment where culture and education could come together. The atmosphere of music, traditional dress, dance and storytelling made the occasion a memorable conclusion to the second term.
For the KPS community, Culture & Future Day ultimately represented more than the end of another school term. It reinforced the importance of understanding where young people come from while giving them the confidence and broader perspective needed to face the future.
The celebration therefore became a fitting reflection of the school’s wider educational philosophy preserving cultural identity, embracing diversity and equipping learners with the knowledge and confidence to shape the future.
