A Ugandan pastor has abandoned his role as the head of his church after winning UGX 300 million through sports betting.
According to local reports, the pastor abruptly shut down the church building, leaving congregation members stranded when they showed up for midweek services. The unexpected windfall made him reconsider his role as a spiritual leader.
Churchgoers were left in disbelief upon finding the church gates locked, unsure of what had happened or where to turn.
When approached for comment, the pastor revealed that his decision to enter ministry was not driven by a divine calling but by financial necessity. “I’m no longer a pastor; you can take the church,” he reportedly said, indicating that his newfound wealth had given him the freedom to move on.
