The former Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP), Hon Mathias Mpuuga has unveiled the Democratic Alliance’s plans to push for meaningful political and electoral reforms as Uganda draws closer to the much anticipated 2026 general elections.
Speaking to the media today during a media engagement in Kampala, Mpuuga outlined the group’s plans to spearhead political and electoral reforms, describing the Democratic Alliance as a “pressure group” aimed at uniting pro-change forces for a transformative political agenda.
“The Democratic Alliance is not a new political party,” he said. “It is a pressure group that seeks to work with all pro-change political formations to fight for the change that will work for all.”
Beginning January 2025, Mpuuga said the Alliance will embark on a nationwide mobilization campaign with a full focus on educating Ugandans about the proposed reforms, which he believes are critical to ensuring a fair and inclusive electoral process.
“We cannot afford to continue to sit and watch as the opposition remains trapped in a deep slumber,” he remarked. “The leaders of the day are clueless and lack a plan that will take us forward.”

DA 63, a new political formation was created early this month by the Nyendo-Mukungwe Member of Parliament with the aim of uniting political change-seeking forces to challenge President Museveni’s nearly four-decade rule.
At the launch of the pressure group on 6th December 2024, Mr Mpuuga pledged that the D.A. 63 would transform into a political party in the coming months, with plans to field candidates, including a presidential aspirant, in the next elections.
The former DP and Go Forward ally urged youth to channel their energies toward productive ventures rather than engaging in social media misuse and attacking each other.
“Social media should be a tool for growth and positive influence, not a platform for insults and hate,” Mpuuga said during the launch of the Alliance, before unveiling controversial musician, Mr Patrick Mulwana, aka Alien Skin as his ally for political mobilization.
As Uganda draws closer to the election season, the Democratic Alliance promises to be a key player in shaping the country’s political future and Mpuuga’s statement signals a call to action for opposition forces to coalesce around a unified agenda aimed at disrupting the status quo.
