A woman in Mbarara City has been arrested for allegedly stealing a four-month-old baby, which she reportedly presented as her own to her husband.
Macklin Aineamani was apprehended on December 10, 2024, in a joint operation conducted by Mbarara City North Division police and the Flying Squad Unit. The baby, identified as Ayan Musika, was taken from Koranorya Market in Mbarara on December 9, 2024.
The infant, the child of Sifa Namatovu and Bombo Bruhan from Rwebihuro Cell in Mbarara City, was stolen while the mother was working as a vendor at the market. Aineamani, a 22-year-old woman, reportedly deceived the baby’s caretaker by asking her to buy yogurt. Upon returning, the caretaker found the baby missing.
Police investigations quickly commenced, leading to the recovery of the baby in Kagaga Parish, Ngarama Sub County, Isingiro District, where Aineamani had allegedly taken the infant to her husband. The baby was safely reunited with the mother on December 10.
Authorities have reminded parents to remain vigilant, particularly as the school holidays begin, emphasizing the importance of closely monitoring children to prevent similar cases.
