The Tale of the Living Dead: Man Accused of Faking Death Unleashes Unbelievable Escape Stunt
In a peculiar turn of events, a 28 year-old man, Michael Elunyu, from Alilioi village in Moruinera Parish, Amuria district, is in the midst of controversy for purportedly faking his own death. Elunyu, who left home seeking employment in Mbale, left his family behind and was reported dead on Thursday evening.
The shocking news reached Elunyu’s village LC1 Chairperson and uncle, Stephen Okiria Elunyu, who received a call claiming that Elunyu had passed away at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital after a brief illness. Distraught, the clan borrowed money to hire an ambulance to retrieve the supposed corpse, mourning the loss of a community member who had also lost his father years ago.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Elunyu answered his own phone while the relatives were at the hospital. In a bizarre twist, he was found alive and well in one of the doctors’ rooms, leaving the medical staff equally perplexed about the reported death.
During the journey back to Amuria, Elunyu, seated in front of the ambulance, took advantage of the situation, jumped out, and attempted to escape. However, bystanders, including bodaboda riders, managed to apprehend him. Elunyu, upon questioning, denied any knowledge of who called his relatives or how he ended up in the hospital.
Relatives are now grappling with the motive behind Elunyu’s alleged death hoax. Some speculate that he might have intended to deceive his family for personal gain, while others express embarrassment for the bizarre incident. The village authorities, led by Okiria, are planning to hand Elunyu over to the clan for disciplinary action, bypassing involvement with the police.
This unusual occurrence has left the community bewildered and raises questions about the motivations behind such an elaborate ruse.
